Guppy MMA Divergence Oscillator for Metastock
Several people have asked for this formula which orginally appeared in our weekly newsletter. The formula is developed by Leon Wilson, author of the
TechStats report. He publishes editions for Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.
For Metastock users first open your indicator builder and click on “New”. Now enter the following formula:-
Name:- Guppy MMA Oscillator
Formula:-
((Mov(CLOSE,3,E)+Mov(CLOSE,5,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,8,E)+Mov(CLOSE,10,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,12,E)+Mov(CLOSE,15,E))-
(Mov(CLOSE,30,E)+Mov(CLOSE,35,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,40,E)+Mov(CLOSE,45,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,50,E)+Mov(CLOSE,60,E)))*10;
(Mov((Mov(CLOSE,3,E)+Mov(CLOSE,5,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,8,E)+Mov(CLOSE,10,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,12,E)+Mov(CLOSE,15,E))-
(Mov(CLOSE,30,E)+Mov(CLOSE,35,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,40,E)+Mov(CLOSE,45,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,50,E)+Mov(CLOSE,60,E)),13,E))*10;0;
For readers interested in price oscillator configuration and not requiring the trigger line, only enter the first half of the formula. I multiply my
values by a factor of ten. This gives a full number indicator value on screen which I find much easier to interpret than all those zeros. The
multiplication factor is not essential to the operation of the indicator, so you may delete it if you wish. Now that you have entered the formula,
make sure the “Show in Quick list” box is ticked and click “OK”.
Cheers
Daryl

GMMA
Hi Daryl,
Could you just confirm that your GMMA uses weighted or exponential MA's (just need to know as I build it into Metastock)
Thanks,
Ashton

As referenced to Daryl's trend trading book, the GMMA averages are all exponential. I frequently use the GMMA expert in Metastock. One good
application for the GMMA is keeping you clear of stocks in long-term downtrends. For example, MRL on a weekly GMMA.

If you have Metastock or access to Metastock there are help files.
Click on ? sign in help file, click again on moving average on the chart.
This will bring help file
Click on Moving average calculation methods
Click on any listed moving average
Exponential, simple, weighted, time series and few more
I think Commonwealth trading platform gives access to Metastock, but not sure
Some books have explanations too
Cheers George

hi hintonj
A good read imo is "Trading with a Plan" by Compton and Kendall in which there is an explanation on how weighted and exponential moving averages are
calculated.
Basically, weighted and exponential ma's place more emphasis/weighting to more recent data. This can be even more important where a large time frame
is used in the ma's, say 10 days or more.
Below is a screen dump of an example on how to calculate exp and weighted ma's using a sample dataset from the above book.
Good luck and hth

Hi Hitonj ...
If you have Supercharts , you could take a chart of any stock , insert a ,say, 20 ma in simple, exponential and weighted forms , and compare the
differences in terms of their utility to your method / set-up [s] ... Similarly in M / S of course ...

HI Daryl
How to run this formula up to MT4?
==========================================
Formula:-
((Mov(CLOSE,3,E)+Mov(CLOSE,5,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,8,E)+Mov(CLOSE,10,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,12,E)+Mov(CLOSE,15,E))-
(Mov(CLOSE,30,E)+Mov(CLOSE,35,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,40,E)+Mov(CLOSE,45,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,50,E)+Mov(CLOSE,60,E)))*10;
(Mov((Mov(CLOSE,3,E)+Mov(CLOSE,5,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,8,E)+Mov(CLOSE,10,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,12,E)+Mov(CLOSE,15,E))-
(Mov(CLOSE,30,E)+Mov(CLOSE,35,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,40,E)+Mov(CLOSE,45,E)+
Mov(CLOSE,50,E)+Mov(CLOSE,60,E)),13,E))*10;0;
