Darvas Exploration

Good Morning,

I took this formula from Daryl's book Trend Trading, would this be the Classic or modern Darvas scan.

This search finds stocks which have made a new 52-week high anytime over the last week.
It is run once a week to find all stocks that have made a new 52-week high in the past five trading days.

Col A: Close (Close)
Col B: Previous High 52-week high (Ref(HHV(H,52),-1)
Col C: Current High 52-week high (High)
Col D: Volume (Volume)
Col E: High (High)
Filter: ColE>ColB

Also if anyone has any suggestion or advice I' open to hear from you. I'm new to trading and I have read alot about the Darvas trading strategy and I would like to use this method in my trading exclusively.

On the above scan when you receive a large list of stocks how should you filter it down to just a few stocks?

Looking to hear from everyone soon.

Good luck in Trading

This can be applied for either classic or modern Darvas. It finds stocks making new highs for the designated period. Once you have the candidate then it is your choice to apply either classic or modern Darvas boxes. The starting point is the same for both.

You may dedcide to filter based on volume, industry sector, etc.

Cheers

Thank You

Daryl,

I would like to take this opportunity to thnak you for your quick response.

In today's market does the Darvas Box method still work?

Up to now I was trading blind, and lost alot of money. I'm looking for a startegy to follow regliously daily. I think I would like to follow Darvas Box method.

Like to get your suggestion and feedback.

Darvas is most effective in a rising market. In a breakout market it offers no significant advantage. In a developing breakout marjket it can be used effectively after the second box has developed. This is discussed in Trend Trading.
