GMMA overlay and zoom function

Hi, I am new to metastock. I have managed to make a GMMA overlay on my price charts, however I have 2 problems.

The first is the worst one.

Whenever I zoom in or out of a stock, the price bars shift INDIPENDENTLY of the GMMAs, so what happens is the price bars end up "floating in space" and completely unrelated to the GMMAs.

The second problem is that all the indicators and so all the lines come up as red (or whatever the default indicator line colour is that you have set). The only way i could have blue short terms and red long terms is by individually changing each short term line to blue while leaving the long terms red. Then saving this as my chart default. If I dont save as chart default then each time I drag the indicator onto a chart it goes all red again.

The only alternative I have managed to find is to make my GMMA indicator into two seperate indicators...one is the long term emas only, the other is the short term emas only. Then tick the box "auto rotate" in the default indicator line colours. Now when you drag the two sets of emas onto the screen Metastock automatically changes the colour of the second group that you drag. Trouble is metastock chooses the colour, not you. So I end up with red and orange instead of red and blue.

Does anyone have an answer to these two problems? In particular the first "zoom" problem?

Many thanks
Colster

Guppy GMMA is already included in Metastock.
Right click on any chart to bring up TEMPLATES. Scroll down and select GUPPY MMA. Select apply.

If you want to create your own display then follow these steps.

Creating a Guppy MMA display in Metastock requires several steps:

1) Open a new bar chart of a security with a long trading history.

2) Delete the inner window showing volume. Click on the bar chart display to highlight it.
Select CUT from the EDIT menu. You will be advised that this actions deletes the base
security. This is OK. You now have a blank screen, but the underlying data is still intact.

3) From the Indicator List select MOVING AVERAGE. Add each of the short term group of
exponential moving averages to the display by dragging down the indicator and changing the
moving average value. Keep all these averages displayed in the same colour. I use blue.

4) Stay on the same screen display for the long term group. From the Indicator List select
MOVING AVERAGE. Add each of the long term group of exponential moving averages to
the display by dragging down the indicator and changing the moving average value. Keep all
these averages displayed in a single different colour. I use red.

5) When the display is completed select SAVE AS from the FILE menu. In the dialogue box
next to SAVE AS TYPE select the TEMPLATE option. Give the template a name and click
SAVE. This template can now be applied to any chart display.

To bring up the template just right click on the bar chart display and select APPLY
TEMPLATE. Choose the MMA template from the dialogue box to see the new display.

Cheers

Thanks heaps Daryl,

I had already located the GMMA template, however I wanted to see the GMMA overlayed with the price candles still visible. Also I was hoping to run my explorations and just flick between securities without having to open up the GMMA template everytime. Does your 5 steps below allow for price candles to remain displayed concurrently with GMMAs?
Another alternative would be if my GTE toolbox could read from a metastock ecploration folder? That may be a question for JustData or Equis.

Hi again Daryl, I think i have found where I went wrong with the zoom function, I needed to merge with the right axis rather than overlay...it seems to be moving concurrently with price action when I use zoom now.

Many thanks for your help,

Colin

I wanted to see the GMMA overlayed with the price candles still visible

Simply follow the steps above but place the MAs on the window with the price candles.
